Insurance Planning

A required course in the Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program.

Course Description

Learn how to manage risk with insurance. Life insurance, annuities, disability insurance, medical long term care, homeowner’s insurance, auto insurance, umbrella liability policies, and public insurance programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid will be explored.

Early registration recommended. The HP-12C or HP-10BII calculator is required. Required prerequisites: MGMT X433.20 Principles of Financial Planning and MGMT X433 Survey of Personal Financial Planning or equivalent experience. This course is approved for 30 hours of Continuing Education units from the California Department of Insurance. Students taking this course will only receive CDI credit once during the two-year license renewal period. Students must email FinancePrograms@ce.uci.edu PRIOR to the end of class to request CE credit. Be sure to include your insurance license number in the email. This course is required to sit for the CFP Examination. You may access your online course on the first day of class by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time. This online course may include webinars using an online conferencing tool called Zoom. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions. Textbook may be purchased directly from the publisher Money Education on their website or by calling (888) 295-6023. Do not purchase a used book. Only new books will have the unused access code for the online resources.

Ryan Hook, MBA, CFP, serves as a Wealth Manager for Creative Planning, Inc., working directly with clients to develop a cohesive strategy to help meet their most complex goals and financial needs. Creative Planning provides comprehensive wealth management services to its clients including investment management, tax, estate planning, retirement plan consulting, business succession planning, liability and risk management, college planning, and charitable giving. Prior to joining Creative Planning, Ryan worked in impact investing as the National Product Manager for TriLinc Global Impact Fund. Before that, he was Vice President, Senior Investment Officer at a local Registered Investment Advisor. Throughout his 13-year career, he has gained extensive experience in comprehensive wealth management for high net worth and normal net worth clients. Ryan started his career at MetLife Investors.
