Leadership is the process of influencing others in order to achieve organizational goals and bottom line results. Leaders today face many challenges including globalization, coping with rapid change, increased complexity, technological advancements and virtual teams. Yet leaders still need to effectively manage employees, inspire others, and shape organizational culture. This course focuses on the components of successful leadership, which includes both theoretical approaches and practical skills. Students will examine styles of leadership, approaches to leadership, and sources of power. Participants will also determine how to create vision, achieve organizational goals, manage conflict, and promote diversity.
Early registration recommended. You may access your online course on the first day of class by 12pm (noon) Pacific Standard Time. This online course may include webinars using an online conferencing tool called Zoom. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the course website for those who cannot participate in the live sessions.
Christine Shortt, M.A., is a change management expert who helps organizations' translate goals and vision into competitive positioning. In diverse business environments she has formulated initiatives that have promoted employee engagement, process improvement, and communications. Christine is a Human Resources/Payroll Manager at UC Irvine and holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University.
