Course Description

Examine popular software programs and practice the technical skills needed to succeed as a paralegal. Spreadsheets, court forms, timesheets, case management software, document assembly software, and other tools commonly used in the legal environment will be explored.

Completion of Fundamentals the Paralegal Profession, Legal Research, Legal Writing, Contracts, Ethics, and Civil Litigation I and Civil Litigation II recommended prior to enrolling in this course.

Instructor


Christi McGowan is the Director of Operations at Sift Discovery. She has over 25 years litigation experience, including 13 years as a Sr. Paralegal/Litigation Support for a national criminal and civil litigation firm. She has used most law firm software applications, from DMS to Trial Director. Since moving to the vendor side 8 years ago, Christi has been involved in all aspects of the eDiscovery process, including starting and running her own eDiscovery business, instructing future paralegals, consulting and assisting clients and firms throughout the discovery process, managing review teams, and testifying as an expert.

Donna McNally is a litigation paralegal at Stradling, Yocca, Carlson, & Rauth. She has more than 30 years of experience as a litigation paralegal working in a variety of areas, including general commercial litigation, securities and shareholder litigation, enforcement of judgments, DOJ and SEC investigations, qui tam litigation, intellectual property and trade secret litigation. For the last three years she has co-chaired the Orange County Paralegal Association Technology Section and has been instrumental in developing MCLE programs for working paralegals. She is a strong believer in lifelong learning, keeping ahead of the curve in law office technology and collaboration at all levels.
