Project Management Essentials for Facilities Professionals

An elective course in the Certificate Program in Facilities Management.

Course Description

Most growing organizations rely on a Project Management process to expand their services and products to grow the bottom line. As a Facilities Manager, developing the skills and knowledge with up-to-date Project Management standards such as; Organizational Influences and Project Life Cycle, Processes, Project Integration Management, Project Scope, Time and Cost Management, Project Quality Management, Project Human Resource Management, Project Communication Management, Project Risk Management and Project Procurement Management all aide in one being able to effectively manage projects, and managing the daily Facilities Maintenance and Operations. As a Facilities Manager, this course will walk you through such critical knowledge areas utilizing real-world Project Management fundamentals, techniques, methods and essential tools to achieve organizational results.

Recommended Prerequisite: Familiarity with facilities management, maintenance and operations.

Instructor


Wayne Ward, AS, BSBA, FMP, LEED Green Associate career spans 40 years with leading industries: entertainment, city government, education, property management and manufacturing. After retiring, he continued his passion to share his experiences. He launched his career at Disneyland, Anaheim, CA as a Sound Technician and later held leadership roles executing: maintenance and operations, planning, estimating and project management. He later joined the City of Anaheim as Manager for the Anaheim Convention Center and later as the District Manager for the Anaheim Resort. He moved to Irvine Community College as the Director of Facilities and later at UCI as Director, Facilities Management. After serving in educational facilities, he held a position with MERIT Property as the Director for Property Services. He recently held a position at Amway Global as Facilities and Operations Group Leader. He earned his associates in science degree in electronics technology at Rancho Santiago College, bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Phoenix and later his master degree in organizational leadership from Chapman University. He maintains a focus in the following areas: building systems, maintenance and operations, soft services, fire life and safety systems, property management, good manufacturing practices (GMP), project management, vendor management, integrated pest management and energy conservation and sustainable practices.
