Fundamentals of Business Analysis

A required course in the Business Analysis certificate program.

Course Description

The role of technology in business has changed dramatically in the last 30 years and continuous to evolve. This Fundamentals of Business Analysis course lays the foundation for essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively perform analysis on programs and projects in this rapidly changing environment. Topics include strategy and organizational analysis, role of business analyst in product and process improvement, and business case analysis and implementation practices. Participants will enhance skills in stakeholder analysis, elicitation, project and portfolio management, testing, and performance management.

The course utilizes best practices from the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) and the Project Management Institute (PMI®) Guide to Business Analysis, the industry standards for the Business Analyst profession.

MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or compatible products are needed for the class assignments. For this course, the instructor may hold optional synchronous sessions via Zoom. Please note these sessions will be recorded and posted in the course for all students to access.

Instructor


Dena Kelber, M.S., PMP is a senior business analyst at Southern California Edison. She has had over 20 years' experience implementing projects with major organizational impact. She has also held multiple systems and business analyst positions in the financial services (Western Corporate FCU), healthcare (Abbott Laboratories) and entertainment (Disney Interactive- games) industries. She is also an accomplished toastmaster, having participated in clubs and competitions across Southern California.
