Developing Emotional Intelligence Competencies for Leading a Diverse Workforce

Emotional intelligence competencies are increasingly critical for leaders and professionals in today’s organizations. Given that knowledge and relationships serve as the currency of the new economy, professionals and those who serve in leadership roles (team leads, project managers, directors, executives, etc.) must develop the necessary skills and behaviors to manage themselves and the stakeholder relationships that drive success in complex organizations.


This course provides participants an invaluable opportunity to rigorously assess their EQ competencies via an assessment tool that has been validated across industry sectors. During this workshop, course participants will:

  • Learn key EQ concepts and principles
  • Deepen their understanding of the business case for EQ and its impact on performance outcomes across levels (personal, team, and organizational)
  • Comprehensively assess their current EQ competencies via a professionally validated tool
  • Complete a series of experiential exercises to further develop key EQ competencies
  • Create a development plan for enhancing selected EQ competencies that align with their job challenges for 2019


Participants will learn about the critical intersection of EQ competencies and diversity as they collectively impact the effectiveness of leaders and their work teams. The first half of the course focuses on the critical EQ skills associated with effective self-management and introspection, which centers on improving self-awareness and self-regulation of emotions. The second part of the course addresses key interpersonal EQ skills and behaviors, which include the ability to empathize with others, inspire and motivate others, and positively influence others via strong communication and change management skills.
