MISC 911

Mindfulness

Mindfulness. It’s pretty straightforward. To be present. Seems trivial, but often, our thoughts about the past or worries about the future rob us of the present. In this workshop, you will learn what mindfulness is, the evidence-based benefits of this practice, its effects on the brain, including changes in structure and connectivity, and practical tools for bringing more awareness into your day. We will also practice a series of mindful exercises, including guided meditation, breathing exercises, and aromatherapy. Instructor: Mitra Hooshmand, PhD is a Public Speaker, Director, and Entrepreneur. Ms. Hooshmand earned her PhD in Neurobiology from UC Irvine and conducted extensive research there for over a decade in the area of spinal cord injury to find a treatment for paralysis. She currently serves as the Director of Scientific Programs at Americans for Cures, a non-profit organization with the mission to educate and raise public awareness about the potential of stem cells to treat diseases. She also teaches Human Stem Cells & Medicine at UCLA.
