Montessori Practicum for Infants and Toddlers

This course prepares the student for internship and final certification projects which run through all three quarters of the certification process. Students learn observation and portfolio evaluation techniques as well as combine learning strategies and apply them during experiences in a Montessori age-appropriate setting under the supervision of a previously certified Montessori teacher. The practicum further provides a balanced and comprehensive application of experiences and affords students experiences over a full academic year as preparation to assume teaching responsibilities. Classroom management and individualization of instruction in a Montessori setting is evaluated throughout the full 3 quarter internship. A minimum participation includes class participation and practicum in an age appropriate Montessori classroom for a full academic day, Monday through Friday, September through June. The intern must be with the same group of children for a minimum of morning work time 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily. (Most full time internships are paid. Some half day, voluntary internships are available).
