Brian Breen of UCI Division of Continuing Education Receives Leadership Award

Exceptional Staff Member from Continuing Education Arm of UC Irvine Is Honored With High Recognition from University

IRVINE, Calif. – June 27, 2011 – The University of California, Irvine presented Brian Breen, director of corporate education at University of California, Irvine Extension, the “Excellence in Leadership” award at its recent 2011 Staff Assembly Excellence in Leadership Award Program. A total of four supervisors received the award for their hard work and dedication to the educational mission put forth by UC Irvine. Breen, a UC Irvine Extension employee for more than 10 years, was recognized for his ability to inspire and motivate the Corporate Training team to successfully lead employee development training and education.

“Breen has excelled as the director of corporate education, leading his team to new heights every year, and we are very proud of his accomplishments,” said Dr. Gary W. Matkin, dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning, and Summer Session at UC Irvine. “His leadership is exemplified through his ability to inspire his team members, establish a successful work environment and contribute to University Extension’s corporate program.”

The “Excellence in Leadership” awards were presented to UC Irvine staff supervisors for outstanding performance as a contributing factor to UC Irvine’s success. Only those supervisors with staff nominations were eligible. This year, 18 supervisors throughout the University and the UCI Medical Center were nominated. The four recipients received $1,000 cash and a distinctive, personalized memento.

“I share this award first and foremost with my team that nominated me,” said Breen. “I am very fortunate to have a team of incredible individuals focused on contributing to the success of our organization. We will continue to excel and work to improve the corporate education program to ensure that the highest quality of training is provided to our clients.”

The “Excellence in Leadership” award is given annually to staff supervisors who successfully enhance staff morale, build an enriching work environment, serve as a mentor and support staff career development. As director of corporate education, Breen and his team are responsible for providing tailored on-target training to large and small organizations, from all industry segments. Breen received a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College of California and is a resident of Irvine, Calif.
