UCI Division of Continuing Education Offers Advanced Preparatory Course For New Project Management Professional Exam

Additional Summer Courses Also Offered for the Project Management Certificate Program

IRVINE, Calif. – June 6, 2011 – The University of California, Irvine Extension introduces the newly revised online preparatory course for the latest version of the Project Management Professional (PMP®) Exam. The course, titled “Advanced PMBOK® Guide Applications,” provides business and project management professionals a thorough review of the nine knowledge areas covered in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)– Fifth Edition, with an emphasis on passing the new PMP® examination available after Aug. 31. The course is offered online beginning June 20 through Sept. 4. In addition, the Project Management Certificate Program will offer two summer courses, with registration currently underway.

“UC Irvine Extension is pleased to offer the latest in an advanced, updated course for individuals seeking to prepare for the new PMP exam,” said Melanie Mitchell, assistant director of business, management, and legal programs at UC Irvine Extension. “This course provides participants with the most up-to-date tools and resources for success on the exam.”

Course participants will learn to prepare a personal action plan based on the framework of the PMBOK® Guide—Fifth Edition to improve their ability to understand and apply project management concepts, tools, and techniques. By the end of the course, students will possess the skills necessary to identify project stakeholders, calculate the critical path, create risk responses and create a stakeholder management plan.

The additional online courses for the summer quarter include:

Creating the Project Office (June 27-Aug. 28): Participants will learn to improve organizational performance in the management of projects while increasing capacity to optimize results from projects contemplated and underway.

Project Management Practicum and Project Simulation (June 27-Aug. 28): A hands-on capstone course in which participants will simulate a project based on one or two case studies. The project will require students to create a complete project plan under typical business constraints, and perform a variety of tasks typically required of project managers on the job.
