Students Will Gain Essential Knowledge of New Social Media Marketing Strategies
IRVINE, Calif. – December 20, 2010 – University of California, Irvine Extension announces the availability of three new online courses in the Social Media & Web 2.0 Specialized Studies Program for the winter 2011 quarter. Courses will benefit marketing professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs with the knowledge to create and implement successful marketing programs using social media tools and storytelling techniques. Classes begin in January 2011, with online registration currently taking place.
“With the dramatic increase in the use of social media in the realms of business and entertainment, UC Irvine Extension offers students cutting-edge courses, allowing them to advance their careers,” says Melanie Mitchell, assistant director of business, management, and legal programs at UC Irvine Extension. “These courses give participants the skills to compete in an increasingly digital world, where the skills to create online marketing campaigns that engage audiences are crucial for success.”
The new Social Media & Web 2.0 courses include:
- Transmedia Marketing Through Storytelling (Jan. 24-March 6) - This online course explores storytelling across multiple media as a powerful marketing tool. The course, one of the few offered in this field at any major university, examines the new phenomenon of transmedia storytelling, the psychology behind creating audience engagement and the challenges this innovative marketing strategy poses to traditional business models. Students will use case studies, and at the end of the course, will create and evaluate a transmedia story strategy for a product, company, cause or campaign.
- Social Media Measurement and Evaluation (Jan. 24-March 6) - This online course explores current trends and tools in social media, including quantitative and qualitative measurement methodologies. Upon completion of this course, students will have the skills necessary to develop a comprehensive measurement plan for social media efforts that are aligned to the specific marketing goals of the business.
- For Not-for-Profits: Using Social Media to Make a Difference (Feb. 2-Feb. 23) - This online course provides instruction on using social media as a powerful tool to connect with constituents, create word-of-mouth buzz, garner support and raise money. The course will take an applied practice view, providing a practical approach for embracing and leveraging social media to create impactful and engaging social media campaigns.
