Modern European History: Absolutism and the Enlightenment

Hybrid

This class examines the culture and politics of the 17th and 18th Centuries. The dominant political model of the age was “absolutism” which concentrates all political power in the hands of a single monarch and his state apparatus. This idea, challenged by the British “constitutional” model of government and a philosophical movement called “the Enlightenment” whose influences, helped spark the French Revolution.
