Time to Go

It’s now time to leave the event, you've said your goodbyes and made some good connections. Follow-up is what sets apart the successful and unsuccessful networking attempts. Follow-up means you’re interested in developing a relationship. But there is a difference between being persistent and being a stalker!

Persistence is determination and perseverance.

Stalking is pestering, annoying, and aggravating.

It is easy to be persistent without stalking.  Here are some tips:

  • Ask the person which method of contact she/he would like: email, phone, snail mail?
  • Invite someone for  coffee, but be clear about what you want. Is it advice, expertise, or some further information? Easier than lunch, coffee can be less than 20 minutes.
  • If you have tried 2-3 times, and it is a no, then move on. Be respectful of time.
