Evaluating Your Netbank

Your Netbank will be a living, breathing network. This will require that you check your connections to ensure people and/or situations have not changed. This has nothing to do with liking or disliking someone.

So how many people can effectively be in your Netbank? Many people have databases that are full of contacts. They may even kid themselves into thinking that these contacts are a huge support network, when in reality most are just acquaintances.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Which of them would help you if you called?
  • How well do you really know or connect with them?
  • Which ones would you want to help?

If someone doesn’t know much about you, or you about them, the networking  relationship is limited. Surround yourself with high-quality people. You are the company you keep! Remember the difference between networking connections and acquaintances.

From the Expert

Consider withdrawing people who:

Only reach out when they need something
We've all gotten that call or email: someone reaches out, engages in some small chat, and then requests a referral or other help. How much space or time in your Netbank are you willing to give?

Are socially unhealthy
They create conflict, gossip, and are a distraction. You will often find yourself avoiding them or confronting them. It’s probably not worth time or energy.
