A perennial favorite, preview of The New Swan Shakespeare Festival summer productions, is back for 2023. Because this year is the 400th anniversary of publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio, this season will be especially festive, with a number of additional events, including THREE plays - Julius Caesar, As You Like It, and The Complete Works for William Shakespeare( Abridged) (Revised).

New Swan, presented in partnership with The UCI Department of Drama, features students and professional actors working to produce these scintillating Shakespeare productions, in a purpose built 130 seat portable mini-Elizabethan theater on the UCI campus.

Presenters: Eli Simon and Julia Reinhard Lupton, Phd

Eli Simon is the co-director of the New Swan Shakespeare Center at UCI. The Center is a Specialized Research Program supported by the Office of Research and closely allied with the School of Humanities and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Partnered with the Festival, the Center sponsors year-round academic and public programming focused on the Bard. Through the Festival and Center programs, UCI has become the premier campus in the UCI system for the integrated production, study and enjoyment of Shakespeare.

Julia Reinhard Lupton, PhD, is professor of English and Associate Dean for Research, School of Humanities. She is the faculty director of Illuminations, the Chancellor’s arts and culture initiative, and co-director of the UCI Shakespeare Center.
