This course examines the causes, process, and consequences of communism's collapse in Eastern Europe in 1989.

Presenter: Jeffrey Kopstein, Professor and Chair of UC Irvine’s Department of Political Science, earned his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley. Professor Kopstein teaches comparative politics. His subfields include dictatorship and democracy, ethnic politics, political violence, and Eastern Europe. His most recent book is Intimate Violence: Anti-Jewish Pogroms on the Eve of the Holocaust.
