THE CAESARS MIGHT AND MADNESS
Justinian the Great
SS 307

After the western portion of the Roman Empire collapsed, the old Roman provinces were ruled by a variety of barbarian tribes. However, the Eastern Empire remained strong/intact due to its impregnable capital, Constantinople. Justinian began his reign (527 - 565) with an ambitious agenda to re conquer the lost western territories. In addition, he built the Hagia Sophia, the greatest Christian cathedral in the world.
