CALIFORNIA DROUGHT: DEFINITIONS, IMPACTS, AND FUTURE

CALIFORNIA DROUGHT:
Definitions, Impacts and Future
SC 209
Format B/C

Drought expresses some of the worst effects that climate change has wrought on southern California. What defines a drought? Haven’t we had these before? How broad of an impact does it have? How long will these events last? Is this our climate future? These topics will be presented with basic science used as input. Much new information exists from governmental, academia, and media, yet nothing defines “drought” for us as much as the surroundings that tell us something is wrong and getting worse. On the positive side, many efforts are underway to minimize the impact, while scientists are also working to address the cause of the problems. What can we do to help?
