HOW MUSIC HEALS - PART I
The Neuroscience of Music and Dementia
AH 106
Music activates the brain in ways that the spoken word and non-melodic tones cannot. This lecture provides an overview of the neuroscience of music, including the implications of music to medicine. The research investigating music as an intervention for people with dementia is reviewed critically, including studies examining music’s ability to improve cognition and as a treatment for agitation, depression, and other behavioral symptoms.
