INTERNATIONAL SHORT STORIES
Great Short Stories of the Masters
AH 112

This six-class series is an interactive adventure in reading and discussing international short stories. The book’s selections include stories by Balzac, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Kafka, Sartre, Proust, von Kleist, Woolf and many more. We will analyze the techniques and poetics of selected stories and ask for volunteers to choose a favorite story from the text, develop questions and lead the discussion.

A list of potential questions and ideas relating to the stories will be made available at the first meeting. If the selected story for a class is very short, two stories will be selected for discussion.

NOTE: Enrollment is limited to 20 registered participants. The textbook is Great Short Stories of the Masters, edited by Charles Neider. It is available at Amazon.com for under $15.
