AMERICAN SHORT STORY MASTERPIECES
The Art of the Short Story
AH 111

This six-class series is an interactive adventure in reading and discussing American short stories. We will analyze the techniques and poetics of selected stories and ask participants to choose a favorite story from the text, develop questions and lead the discussion.

A list of potential questions and ideas relating to the stories will be made available at the first meeting. If the selected story for a class is very short, two stories will be selected for discussion.

NOTE: Enrollment is limited to 30 registered participants. The textbook is The Best American Short Stories of the Century, edited by John Updike. It is available at Amazon.com for under $20.
