This new book chronicles a storied family’s attempts to remake
the vast Irvine Ranch in its own image, and Orange County’s metamorphosis from 93,000 acres of farmland into an iconic Southern California landscape of beaches and modernist architecture. You’ll hear stories of the colorful characters responsible, including Ray Watson, who rose from a boarding house to boardrooms; Joan Irvine Smith, who warred against the US government and the Irvine Foundation’s reactionary board; and William Pereira, visionary LA architect.

Presenter: Michael Stockstill, BA (Humboldt State Univ.) co-authored Transforming the Irvine Ranch with H. Pike Oliver. He held senior positions in many aspects of the public and private sectors. He was a senior manager at the Irvine Company for over 13 years.
