ROMANTIC DUOS IN BALLET, SHAKESPEARE AND BROADWAY

Wednesday, November 1: The Pas De Deux in Ballet
By means of video and lecture, the technique, history, and intricacies of the pas de deux in ballet will be explored.

Presenter: Molly Lynch,
Associate Professor of Dance at UC Irvine, is an award-winning choreographer and artistic director, with over 30 years of experience creating, producing, and presenting
dance. She teaches ballet, pointe, partnering, repertory, and arts management.

Wednesday, November 8: Broadway Duets and Voice Development
Videos of some of our favorite Rogers and Hammerstein romantic duets will be shown along with clips of modern Broadway and movie duets. In addition, we will discover the relationship between singing and the vocal chords, the training required of a professional singer, and the fine science of blending voices.

Presenter: Meredith Cheston
is a developer of courses in Arts and Humanities and a long-time OLLI presenter of topics related to music.

Thursday, November 16: Romeo and Juliet
This multimedia presentation will study the poetry, music and choreography of Romeo and Juliet’s first conversation. We will approach the text itself plus opera and ballet to explore the imagery and gestural vocabulary of Shakespeare’s romantic masterpiece.

is a UCI Professor of English, Associate Dean for Research, Faculty Director of the School of Humanities, and a pronounced contributor to Illuminations, The Chancellor's Arts and Culture Initiative.
