Founded in 1894 by Bostonian Percival Lowell, Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ is famous for Clyde Tombaugh's discovery of Pluto in 1930 as well as the first detection of an expanding universe. Lowell Observatory's Deputy Director for Technology (and UCI alumnus) Kyler Kuehn will delve into the feats of instrumentation and engineering that led to Lowell's most significant scientific accomplishments. Dr Kuehn will be joined by Lowell historian and recent author Kevin Schindler who will round out the presentation with stories of some of the people behind the Observatory's notable achievements.
