The Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, and Physiology or Medicine
are announced every year in early October, and reward exceptional achievements in increasing our understanding of how the world around us works, extending to the most distant reaches of the Universe. Many of the awards are for scientific breakthroughs that bring great benefit to all humanity. We will describe the science that led to each award, and how the awardees accomplished it.
