I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE UNDER MY FEET: TECTONICS AND SUPER CONTINENTS

SC 205 I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE UNDER MY FEET: TECTONICS AND SUPER CONTINENTS
Format B/C

This repeat of a 2017 class will describe the nature of crustal plate movement (“tectonics”) and its relationship to what is happening at and below the Earth’s surface, from crust to core. The origin of surficial features such as the San Andreas Fault, the disappearing Mediterranean, the Japan Trench, the Pacific Ring of Fire, the island of Iceland and much more will be discussed. The history of tectonics will be described through Supercontinent development over the past 4+ billion years. Do you know how fast the Earth is moving under us?
