THE 1930'S: THE AGE OF CONTRAST
THE 1930’S: THE AGE OF CONTRAST
AH 108 Class Format B
This decade was a time of exceptional unrest. With the Great Depression, tent cities were abundant, massive unemployment was a way of life, and political turmoil was seen throughout the US and Europe. Yet, in the midst of this, great music, art and literature blossomed. With the Golden Age of Hollywood, we’ll hear the music of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, and enjoy the dancing feet of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The amazing art and literature of this period will also be explored.
Presenter/Developer: Meredith Cheston is a music aficionado and an enthusiastic OLLI developer of music and humanities classes.
