RESURRECTING T.S. ELIOT AND PRUFROCK

AH 111 Resurrecting T.S. Eliot and Prufrock
FORMAT B/C

This class will be a welcome improvement from the last time
it was presented because now we have a Professor of Comparative Literature who really knows Eliot and his famous poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” Eliot began writing the poem in 1910, making it one of the earliest examples of American literary modernism. We’ll investigate the poem’s themes of isolation, regret, and disillusionment, and discuss how Eliot’s “Prufrock” helped usher in a new era in American literature.

Presenter: Stephen J. Mexal is a prolific author and Cal State Fullerton professor whose research focuses on the multiple ways in which imaginative narratives participate in American political life. He regularly teaches courses in 19th and 20th century American literature; the literary history of the American west; literary realism and naturalism; and ethnic American literature.
