The musical “Hamilton” featuring hip-hop compositions and actors of color, has caused a sensation across the nation. This lecture series, which includes songs from the musical, is intended to render the production more comprehensible by lending historical context to the life and times of Alexander Hamilton.
Tuesday February 13: Hamilton’s origins in the West Indies up to the eve of the American Revolution
Tuesday February 20: - Hamilton’s role in the Revolution and in the creation of the U.S. Constitution
Tuesday February 27: Analyzing Hamilton’s financial vision and his rift with other Founding Fathers
Tuesday March 6: Hamilton’s political decline, his duel with Aaron Burr, and his lasting impact on the history of the United States.
Presenter: Don Schwartz, Professor Emeritus retired CSULB has taught European and U.S. diplomatic history, as well as courses on the Holocaust. He is co-author of World History: Traditions and New Directions (Addison-Wesley), was named Distinguished Lecturer by the Organization of American Historians, and taught in Cambodia and China as part of the Fulbright Specialist Program.
