THE SUPREME COURT, 2017-2018 TERM

THE SUPREME COURT:
2017-2018 Term
SS 316

Last year, the Supreme Court sought compromise and consensus. The Court set a modern-day record for agreement, due primarily to the fact that there were only eight members. Now, with a full complement of justices, this year's term portends to be far more political and contentious. The course will briefly review the facts, the constitutional provisions involved, the lower court decisions, the arguments, and any decisions that may have been rendered. The presentation will be non-political, leaving all personal comments to the class members in the Q&A following each presentation.

Presenter: Mitch Samuelson, OLLI member, practiced law for more than 40 years as a business and commercial trial attorney. He has been a trial counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice and has been admitted to all federal courts in California.
