COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM: CERT
How Volunteers Can Help Cope With Disasters
SS 309

Emergency services personnel are best equipped and trained to handle emergencies. However, following a catastrophic disaster, you and your community may be on your own for a period of time because of the area affected, lost communications, and impassable roads. The CERT program is designed to prepare you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in the event of a disaster. CERT training covers basic skills important in a disaster when emergency services are unavailable. This course will provide information about CERT programs to encourage OLLI members to take the necessary training to become a CERT volunteer in their jurisdiction.
