An elective course in the Certificate Program Facilities Management.

People spend 90% of their time indoors. In order to protect their safety and health, it is crucial to protect the indoor air quality (IAQ) through facility design and management. Participants will list various factors contributing to poor indoor air quality while gaining a deeper understanding of the relationship between indoor air quality and energy efficiency. The course addresses the role of indoor air quality in green building design and sustainability. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements related to indoor air quality will also be reviewed. In addition, the role of mechanical ventilation systems in causing indoor air quality problems and the resolution of those problems will be discussed. The course will explore the following: sources of indoor air pollutants, “sick building syndrome,” mold, indoor air quality program management, COVID-19, and IAQ regulatory requirements.
