Course Description

Gain practical knowledge on heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems as applied to building comfort systems. Enhance your knowledge of all aspects of HVAC-R systems. Explore topics that include: thermodynamics, psychrometrics, forced air and hydronic heating systems, LEED certification levels, and current issues regarding building sustainability. Facilities managers, building engineers, and maintenance and service mechanics will find this course of interest.

Recommended prerequisites: Basic understanding of mathematics, mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.

Paul Howland, M.B.A., is presently the CEO of Hydro-Convergent Technologies Inc. and an independent consultant and Principle of Steam Plant Solutions LLC. He retired after 24 years with CSULB and UCI as Executive Director of Facilities Management Department, He has over 40 years’ experience in the maintenance, supervision and management of facilities and physical plants and maintains an appointment as a teacher in the UCI Division of Continuing Education. He also teaches HVAC related classes for SC Gas Co; San Diego Gas & Electric; Southern California Edison; and classes for the NEEC in the Building Operator Certificate (BOC) program, a nationally recognized certification.
