Effective Teaching of K-3 ELA

This course will support classroom teachers with students in K through 3rd grade classrooms to better understand and apply evidence-based practices during their English Language Arts (ELA) instruction. Teachers will develop an understanding of why third grade reading proficiency is such a critical skill, that predicts many long-term outcomes in a student’s life. Teachers will also gain insight as to why literacy is SO critical and how reading ability serves as the primary vehicle for accumulating knowledge in the upper elementary and middle/high school years. Teachers who participate in the course will gain a better understanding of how to use the tools and support available to deliver this critical instruction to students, apply evidenced-based practices in their classroom, put insights from literacy expertise and coaches into action.
