Montessori Philosophy and Pedagogy for Infants and Toddlers

This class is an overview of the Montessori method and philosophy of education for infants and toddlers. This is an excellent class for teachers who wish to learn these methods to individualize their infant/oddler programs. It includes the application and analysis of the Montessori philosophy and method, a short survey of Montessori's life and work, terminology, Montessori's research on child development, normalization/socialization of the infant/toddler, and the fundamental methods used in Montessori infant/toddler classrooms. The class includes methods for motivating, guiding and facilitating socialization and independence as well as an introduction into care and activities for children in this age range. Diversity, assessment, special needs and other important issues in child studies are also addressed. This is the first of a series of classes for those students who wish to become Montessori infant/toddler teachers. Please note that the orientation meeting on the first Tuesday of September is required for all candidates for the Montessori Infant-Toddler Certificate in order to continue in the program.
