Motivation and Responsibility in the Student-Centered Classroom
Within the student-centered classroom, the teacher must shift focus from the basic implementation of standardized curriculum and assignments to a more creative, organic facilitation of subject content and student activity. This course instructs teachers on how to ascertain student interests and needs, increase student self-reliance and curiosity, as well as how to develop an active, reflexive approach to teaching and learning. Skills such as active listening, adaptive coaching, role-playing, collaboration, and conflict resolution are covered. Topics include critical and creative thinking, project-based learning, and community engagement and service-learning assignments.
