- 1. I can't seem to enroll online. I'm a first-time user of the new web catalog, but I keep getting a red error message when I try to login stating that I have to enroll with Student Services. Why?
- The new web catalog talks directly to our student database. We sincerely regret any inconvenience, but are taking every precaution to protect your personal information. We don't want your personal or class information mixed into someone else's transcripts. So, we must verify whether you are already in our database.
If you are getting an error message, that means that someone else in the database matches some of your information — last name along with either the same birth date or SSN. This may even be your own student record, but we need all the elements to match in order to make sure that your records are safe and secure.
Please call our Student Services Office at (949) 824-5414 to complete your enrollment. Or you may enroll in person. You can find an enrollment form here. Please ensure that, as you enroll, you provide us with both your SSN and your birth date. That way, you will be able to successfully enroll online in the future.
Again, we do regret any inconvenience, but are very concerned with the integrity and safety of your personal information.

- 2. Why do you need my social security number?
- This number is a unique, personal identification number. When you enroll online, we must ensure that we add your classes to your own personal transcript. By matching on your last name, birth date, and SSN, we can ensure that we are working with only your record in our database. We will never share your information with anyone. Please review our privacy policy.

- 3. I've enrolled online in the past, so why do I have to login now?
- We have upgraded our online catalog. It launched on November 18, 2002. If you haven't enrolled online since then, you will need to create a profile using the "Create New Account" form. In future visits, you can go directly to "My Account Login."
- 4. I forgot my password. How do I log into the site?
- When you get to "My Account Login" please click on the "Lost Password" button. You should then enter the email address on your file and we will promptly email your password.
If you are fairly certain that you have changed email addresses, then you should call Student Services at (949) 824-5414. They can reset the email address on your student record for you. They will not, however, be able to provide your password as this is encrypted information, though they can complete your registration over the phone.
Once your email is reset on your record, you can then email your password to yourself and continue online registration.

- 5. When is my credit card charged for an online purchase?
- Your account is charged only after you verify your information for the last time and submit your final enrollment. You can add classes to your shopping cart and remove them without being charged. Only when you've gone through the entire checkout process and approved your charges will your credit card be charged.

- 6. I am trying to create a profile, but get a message that my email address is already in use. What's happening and why can't I continue?
- Each online student record must have a unique email address as this is your user name. If you are using a shared email account (perhaps shared with others at work or with a family member) and they have already created a web profile using that email, then you must choose a different email account.
Likewise, you may already be in our database, but we didn't have your SSN or birth date already on file. If that's the case, then the record you are creating is "new" and not yet connected to your existing information. You may call Student Services at (949) 824-5414 and have them perform a search for your information so that they can connect all your files. Otherwise, you may have to choose a new email address to continue enrolling. Please be sure to use a valid email or you may have difficulty signing into the site in the future if you forget your password.

- 7. I created a profile using this new catalog, but I didn't complete a registration. Am I still on file?
- Once you save your web profile, you remain on file even if you didn't complete your purchase. If you received an email verifying your email address and password, then you should use the "My Account Login" form when you come back.

- 8. Can I drop classes online?
- Not at this time. Please submit a written request to dce-drop@uci.edu to drop classes.
- 9. How do I cancel my registration?
- If you have already completed your online registration and received your confirmation, you will need to submit a written request to dce-drop@uci.edu to drop your class.
If you have not yet completed your online registration, then you may click on the "My Cart" icon and "remove" all items from your basket or click the "Cancel Registration" button. This will empty your cart and you will not incur any charges on your credit card.

- 10. I left my computer for a while, and when I returned, my cart was empty.
- Your session has timed out and your registration has been canceled. To protect your personal data, we limit the time that your session remains valid. Please return to the catalog and add the classes to your registration cart and continue the checkout process.

- 11. Why can't I buy just a parking permit on the web?
- At this time, the online web catalog is designed for course enrollment. We strongly encourage you to purchase your parking permit at the same time that you register for classes. If you need to purchase only a permit, you may call our Student Services Office at (949) 824-5414. They will help you determine which permit you need and will take care of that transaction.
- 12. When will I receive my parking permit?
- Approximately two weeks before class begins. If you are enrolling very near (or after) the class start date, you may not receive your permit in time for your first class meeting. You need a permit at all times on the UCI campus. If you have not received it, you will need to purchase a short-term permit. Please see our Parking section for more information.

- 13. Why was I assessed a late fee?
- It is very important that our students register as far in advance of their classes as possible. This allows us to accurately manage class sizes and determine if the class is viable. However, we do provide a grace period of two days before the late fee is activated. If you enroll any later than two days after your class begins, then we will assess a $25 late fee per class. You may visit the Fees section of the web for more information.

- 14. How do I find the class I'm interested in?
- Our catalog offers three different search interfaces. All three work within the same database, so you can choose the search style that best meets your needs.
1. Search by topic of interest, campus, and course length. With this search, you must choose a term and topic, but you may leave campus and course length alone if you wish. If you refine your search too much and get no results, you may try broader search criteria.
2. Browse all of our topics. You may view a full list of all of our topics and drill-down to the course level within a single click.
3. Search the full catalog by keyword or go right to the Reg # if you know it. Our "old" web catalog only allowed searching by Reg #. If you have a paper catalog and know the class you want, you may enter the Reg # here. Or, you may search by keyword. This searches the title and full course description of every class in our catalog.

- 15. Does the keyword search require simple or Boolean search strings?
- It uses simple searches. For example, to search for the term project management, you simply type in the two words. Do not enclose in quotes; do not use any other characters or Boolean operators. The search results will return any class in which the joined term project management appears either in the course title or description. Single word searches, such as Java, will return all classes with that word anywhere in the description or title.

- 17. Should I enroll for a class after it has already started?
- You may enroll at your own discretion, realizing that you will incur a $25 late fee if the class began more than two days ago. Further, our X400-level classes are university-style, rigorous learning experiences complete with homework, exams, papers, and other graded assignments. You will have to work directly with the instructor to make up any work you have missed. The instructor may decide that it is too late to effectively join the class. Please be familiar with our refund policy before you enroll to determine if you qualify for a refund if the instructor does not allow you to join a course already in progress.
