FAQ

• Which courses can be applied toward a UCI DCE program?
• UCI DCE has evaluated and approved a limited number of UCI undergraduate and graduate courses which can be applied toward the completion of a UCI DCE Certificate or Specialized Studies program. The list may be updated at any time without prior notice. The current list may be found at the DCE website.
  
  UCI DCE requires that courses to be applied toward Certificate or Specialized Studies programs must have been completed within five years, and a grade of C or better attained. A maximum number of courses to be considered will vary and depend on the specific program chosen.
• I took a course at another university, that’s exactly like the course at a UC campus. Can I transfer the credits?
• This program grants credit toward UCI DCE programs from pre-approved courses at UCI only. Any discussions about transfers of work from other institutions or for courses not otherwise pre-approved must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
• What documentation or fees are required?
• Students wishing to transfer UCI undergraduate or graduate courses toward UCI DCE programs must submit a completed Career Launch Petition to Substitute Form. DCE Records staff will verify your coursework and notify student when the petitions has been approved. Students will be notified to pay the one-time $125 (non-refundable) candidacy for the certificate program.
• Can I transfer campus courses that aren’t on the list?
• Courses not otherwise listed as approved must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
• Are UCI DCE programs accredited?
• UCI is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. All courses and certificate programs offered by UCI Division of Continuing Education have been developed and are administered in accordance with UCI Division of Continuing Education policy and the regulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California.
• How long does it take to complete a certificate program?
• Most DCE certificate programs can be completed in 11/2 to 2 years. Specialized studies can be completed in about a year.
• What is the average cost of a certificate program?
• Specialized studies: $3300
  Certificate programs: $5500
• Is financial assistance available?
• Students may apply for private alternative student loans. Since UCI DCE courses and programs are not eligible for federal funding, there is no need to complete a FAFSA application.
• Who should I contact with questions?
• Credit transfers are handled by the academic unit of the individual DCE program. To identify a program contact, locate the program on the UCI DCE website. Contacts are listed on the right side of the page. You may also call our Student Services line, (949) 824-5414, and they will help direct your call.
