Financial Planning Process

Brian Chang, CFA®, CFP®, is a Wealth Manager at Creative Planning with nearly a decade of experience in the financial services industry. He works directly with clients to develop and implement comprehensive financial plans to address their goals and most complex financial needs. Brian specializes in the areas of retirement planning, investment management, tax planning, estate planning, risk management, and charitable planning. As a frequent speaker at national chamber of commerce conferences, Brian has a passion for financial education.

Insurance Planning

Bart Brewer, CFA®, EA, CFP® has been a financial professional for parts of five decades. He currently runs his own comprehensive private client advisory practice. He has over 11,000 hours in the live classroom as a financial instructor and has lectured in front of several professional groups at conferences on personal financial planning, and insurance and securities topics. His expertise includes portfolio management, securities analysis, retirement plan design, and tax planning.

Retirement Planning

Patricia Heaton Parker, CFP®, CDFA®, CEP® is the owner of Barlow & Parker Wealth Managers in Orange County, CA. Retirement Planning is a complex subject and can be approached in many ways. Ms. Parker's personal work experience encompasses many views of this subject matter. She has worked in companies that are traditional wire houses, insurance based and banking. Since 1997, Ms. Parker has been responsible for helping hundreds of families develop a path to successful retirement. She is more than willing to use this experience to translate not just information but also a practical approach to others wishing to learn more about Retirement Planning.

Tax Planning

Marc Spiegel, M.S.(TAX), CFP®, is a branch manager with FSC Securities Corporation. He has over 26 years of experience helping retirees, business owners, and families reduce income and estate taxes. Prior to developing his own practice, he held positions at the Washington D.C. office of Deloitte & Touche and the L.A. office of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Investment Planning

Maria Kutscher, CFP®, CFA®, CRPC®, is a Senior Vice President, Private Client Advisor with U.S. Trust, Bank of America. She draws on more than 27 years of financial services experience with U.S. Trust and associated firms. In her current role, Maria provides comprehensive wealth management solutions to high net worth individuals, families and business owners who require sophisticated analysis, tailored strategy, and intensive service. She facilitates sound decision making in multiple areas, including wealth structuring, estate planning, investments, and custom credit/lending. Maria received an M.B.A. from St. Mary's College and a B.S. in Finance from CSU, Long Beach. A native of Southern California, Maria is an active volunteer in the community, serving or has served on the boards of The Boys and Girls Club, Women Investing on Security and Education (WISE), and the Financial Planning Association of Orange County. She is a member of the Chapman University Endowment Council and CalCPA.

Estate Planning

Eric Raines, J.D., is a local attorney who specializes in estate planning and administration. His practice centers on serving high net worth clients. Eric received his law degree from Yale Law School. While at Yale, he served as a Senior Editor and Internet Editor for the Yale Law and Policy Review. Prior to establishing Law Office of Eric M. Raines, he spent five years as an associate for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP. In 1999, Eric founded All Students Academic Partnership, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to tutoring and mentoring at-risk students.

Financial Planning Practicum

Robert H. Mauldin II, CFP®, CRPC®, is a financial advisor at Citi Personal Wealth Management. He has worked in Finance for the last 18 years advising clients on financial strategies. He is experienced in taking multifaceted concepts, pulling from multiple disciplines, then communicating those concepts to be understood in a variety of learning styles.

Each course consists of 4 full-day classroom meetings (2 Sat/Sun from 8am-5pm) with an online component or project between the two weekends and an online exam the following week, with the exception of the Practicum course which has 2 weeks between the classroom meetings.

Requirements

  • Participants must have 3 years of experience in the investment, banking, insurance, or financial planning business, or 3 years of experience as a CPA, Attorney at Law, CLU, or ChFC.
  • Participants are required to participate in online sessions, attend every class session, complete all assignments, and pass the final exam with a grade of “C” or better.
  • A series 7 license is highly recommended.

Location

All classes are held at the UCI Campus (Saturday – Sunday).

Textbooks

Program fee does not include required textbooks which are approximately $150 per course, not including shipping. Students will receive the textbook information on their enrollment confirmation.

Parking

Program courses span across three quarters. Program fee does not include parking. Parking is $50 per quarter. Please see UCI Parking Policy for details.

Discounts

A 10% corporate discount is offered to groups of three or more from the same company. All participants must enroll at the same time to receive the discount.
