Technology and Team Driven Innovation


Innovative organizations foster an imaginative, efficient, and measured risk-taking environment yielding high-value products that resonate with customers. Those leading these efforts harness creativity and translate ideas into reality. This new certificate program provides technical and professional skills development along with a roadmap for technology-oriented organizations and professionals to drive innovation through teams and enabling technologies in a global marketplace experiencing unprecedented change in a post-COVID world. Designed with guidance from a group of advisors from a broad set of industries, the program focuses on: driving innovation through technology and meaning, efficient and globally shared design processes, product knowledge capture and re-use, individual innovation, leading technical teams and building and maintaining an innovative organization.

Students will also investigate a wide range of breakthrough technologies and innovations, along with solutions to people, process and tools challenges facing today’s technology-oriented organizations. These skills acquired in this program provide individual contributors, management and leadership with the ability to effectively drive market-driven, technical and team-based innovation throughout their organizations.

Who Should Enroll

This program is designed for both technical and non-technical managers, leaders and individual contributors who work in an organization whose products or services have a technical component. This includes products and services in almost every industry including aerospace and defense, automotive, medical equipment, software, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, utilities, technology hardware, communications, energy, transportation, financial technology, and IT departments at any organization. The program is also ideal for technical professionals who are considering management positions as a part of their career aspirations.

Learn How To Earn Your CertificateCertificate Eligibility and Requirements

A certificate is awarded upon completion of 5 required courses totaling 12 units, with a grade of “C” or better in each course. To become an official candidate in the program, students pursuing the certificate must submit a Declaration of Candidacy with a non-refundable $125 application fee. Students are encouraged to declare candidacy as soon as possible, but no later than after the third course in the program. To receive the digital certificate after completing all program requirements, students must submit a Request for Certificate. All requirements must be completed within five (5) years after the student enrolls in his/her first course. Students not pursuing a certificate are welcome to take as many individual courses as they wish.

All certificate programs at UCI Division of Continuing Education (classroom and online formats) require professional-level English language proficiency in listening and note-taking, reading comprehension and vocabulary, written expression, and oral presentation.
