The Strategic Leadership Development Certificate Program is focused on leadership skills essential to being an effective executive, manager, supervisor, or team member. This program begins by exploring the principles of leadership, and how they are different from management skills, and continues by addressing the essential skills of creating a strategic vision, influencing others, leading others, and delivering results.

Certificate Eligibility and Requirements

A certificate is awarded upon completion of five (5) courses with a grade of “C” or better for a total of 15 units. To become an official candidate in the program, students pursuing the certificate must submit a Declaration of Candidacy. Students are encouraged to declare candidacy as soon as possible, but no later than after the third course in the program. To receive the certificate after completing all program requirements, students must submit a Request for Certificate. All requirements must be completed within five (5) years after the student enrolls in his/her first course. Students not pursuing a certificate are welcome to take as many individual courses as they wish.

Achievement is measured by the quality  of work completed on projects vs. hours in a classroom. Customize your learning based on your knowledge and experience – you can learn new leadership skills or earn credit for demonstrating leadership skills already acquired; and choose to learn with situations from your own work history or the case study provided.

Fast

Flexibility in when and how quickly you want to learn
Start courses as soon as you enroll. You will have 90 days to complete each course, and may take as many as you want concurrently.

Interactive

Student-determined level of interaction
Learning resources curated by a subject matter expert, online office hours with a mentor, and online discussion forums with other students are available to use at your discretion.

Cohesive

Cohesive course of study
The leadership topics assembled, resources curated and mentorship offered provide you with the leadership skills needed to be an effective executive, manager, supervisor or team member.

Continuing Education Credit

Earn CPE credit towards NCMA certification and recertification.

Mentor and Evaluator

The Mentor and the Evaluator are subject-matter experts who will help you through the courses. The Mentor is available to help you learn and apply leadership concepts, and the Evaluator will objectively evaluate final projects based on the Strategic Leadership Development Evaluation Rubric.

Mentor: Patricia Bravo, MBA

Patricia BravoPatricia has over 20 years’ experience in the field of human resources and specializes in organization and leadership development. Her company, Bravo For You, LLC offers leadership development consulting as well as career and life coaching for individuals and leaders. In the classroom, she likes to share her experiences from working in the human resources departments at companies like Starbucks, FileNet (IBM), J.D. Edwards and Sprint PCS. In addition to her BA in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton, Patricia has an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and a designation as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). A transplant who fell in love with the Pacific Northwest, she fuels her love of travel by traversing regularly to Southern California for a bit of sunshine.

Evaluator: Dayna Zamansky, MS

Dayna ZamanskyDayna has over eight years of experience as a Human Resources Business Partner. Dayna holds a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management and is a Human Resources Generalist with a strong knowledge in employee relations, recruitment, leadership and employee development, organizational change and training. Dayna is currently a Director of Human Resources at The NPD Group, a market research company based in NY. Her prior experience includes working in the Human Resources department at Starbucks and ANN Inc. When she is not working, Dayna enjoys spending her time with friends and family and traveling to new places, as well as the cities where she has previously lived, Seattle and Florida.

English Proficiency Requirement
All certificate programs at UCI Division of Continuing Education (classroom and online formats) require professional-level English language proficiency in listening and note-taking, reading comprehension and vocabulary, written expression, and oral presentation.
